The Creality Enter 3 Pro is an affordable 3D printer available on market. Creality Ender 3 Pro 3d printer offers features which we do not see in most expensive 3D printer. This budget printer also filament friendly. You can run all popular filaments like PLA, ABS, PETG, TPU. With some tweaks, you can use all this material in your Ender 3 Pro printer.
Features of Ender 3 Pro
Like any other 3D printer Ender 3 Pro uses some specific features
1. Hot end – The hot end of Ender 3 Pro is more reliable and it will reach up to 240 deg C due to the PTFE tube and this temperature is sufficient for PLA, ABS, PETG and TPU filaments.
2. Nozzle – The standard 0.4 mm brass nozzle will give you excellent performance with most of the filament. You can change to 0.2, 0.3 nozzle depending on the application. You can’t use abrasive material, which may eat the brass nozzle. Trad3d Technologies marble filament will run smoothly with this nozzle.
3. Heated bed: The detachable magnetic heated bed can easily reach a temperature of 110 deg C which will be sufficient if you are printing ABS filaments to avoid wrapping.
4. Enclosure: Ender3 Pro is an open type 3D printer and doesn’t come with a pre-build enclosure. For printing ABS filament, you need an enclosure that can be built easily. Read my blog for printing ABS with Ender 3 printer.
Ender3 Pro & PLA Filament
PLA ( Poly Latic Acid) is the most common filament for 3D printing. Trad3d Technologies PLA & PLA+ filaments are made from virgin biodegradable plastic. PLA is a versatile filament and Ender 3 Pro is a versatile printer, they are made for each other. Ender 3 Pro can reach easily the melt temperature required for PLA & PLA+, which is 180-210 deg C.
Typically recommended settings of Ender3 Pro for our PLA & PLA+
Nozzle Temperature – 180 to 210 deg C
Bed Temperature – 65 – 70 deg C
Bed Adhesion – Ender3 Pro provides fine bed adhesion
Print speed - 40 – 60 mm/s
Retraction – As Ender 3 Pro has Bowden setup the retraction setting is higher. Recommend to keep 5 mm @ 45 mm/s speed.
Part cooling fan – On
Ender 3 Pro & ABS Filament
ABS Acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) is a robust and durable 3D printer filament, most suitable for engineering applications. Trad3d Technologies ABS filament is a high temperature and mechanically strong. This material is known to be strong, tough, and durable. It is also resistant to scratches, offers good resistance to heat and everyday chemicals. It can endure heat, pressure, and stress like no other home 3D printer material, making it a great choice for “wear and tear “prints.
Typically recommended settings of Ender3 Pro for our ABS filament
Nozzle Temperature – 210 to 230 deg C
Bed Temperature – 100 – 110 deg C
Bed Adhesion – ABS requires some adhesion or the part will warp. Using raft or brim will reduce the warpage. You can also use glue to avoid warpage. Check my blog on using ABS filament with Ender 3 printer.
Print speed - 45 – 60 mm/s
Retraction –5 mm @ 45 mm/s speed.
Part cooling fan – Off. In my experience keeping the part cooling fan off gives you a good print, since ABS need to be cooled down gradually. The part cooling fan may cool the part suddenly which may split the layer.
Ender 3 Pro & PETG Filament
The Glycol modified Poly Ethylene Terephthalate is the middle range filament between PLA and ABS and it is easy to print. This translucent PETG 3D printer filament 1.75mm can be used to print mechanical parts, printer parts, robotics, and a variety of protective components. The filament has a glossy finish. It has excellent chemical resistance as well as acidic and alkaline resistance.
Typically recommended settings of Ender3 Pro for our PETG filament
Nozzle Temperature – 210 to 230 deg C
Bed Temperature – 75-85 deg C
Bed Adhesion – PETG adheres well in Ender3 Pro with painter’s tape. Hair spray or glue stick also works very well.
Print speed - 45 – 60 mm/s. You can go slow 25-30 mm/s for a better print.
Retraction – Start with 5 mm and increase by 0.2 mm. Max 7 mm. Same way start speed @ 45 mm/s increase by 5 mm/s. You need to do this by trial and error.
Part cooling fan – On. This will help in reducing the strings & blobs.
Ender 3 Pro & TPU Filament
TPU, Thermoplastic Polyurethane, has become popular because of the flexibility, shock-absorbing capabilities and abrasion resistance. Trad3d Technologies TPU filaments have a hardness of 92 shore A and it is easy to print on Ender 3 Pro machine if you have an extra direct drive attachment.
Typically recommended settings of Ender3 Pro for our TPU filament
Nozzle Temperature – 210 to 230 deg C
Bed Temperature – I recommend a bed temperature of 65-70 deg C
Bed Adhesion – TPU adheres well in Ender3 Pro with painter’s tape. Brim and raft is an option but it is not needed.
Print speed – Go slow when you print TPU. I recommend 25 – 30 mm/s.
Retraction – Keep this as low as possible. Distance – 3 mm and keep reducing if you find a string. Speed 25-30 mm/s. Increasing the speed will clog your nozzle.
Part cooling fan – On. This will help in reducing the strings & blobs.
